Job Overview

Breakwater accounting + advisory corp® seeks an Account Manager, Non-Profit, to join our fast growing Non- Profit segment team. Account Managers make a direct impact on the organization and provide accounting guidance to our non-profit clients. In addition to ensuring our clients’ accounting practices are up to date, accurate and efficient, Account Managers deliver insightful reporting, help identify new client opportunities, mentor junior team members, and provide business advisory for our clients. This position reports to our Business Segment Leader, Non-Profit, and works from our headquarters in Wilmington, DE.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with breakwater clients to identify and deliver the needs and requirements to effectively manage their accounting processes
  • Maintain ownership of specified client relationships and service delivery in coordination with the assigned breakwater team
  • Ensure proper classification of all financial activity
  • Reconcile accounts, make month-end entries, and prepare monthly reporting, per client needs
  • Be fully capable and willing to process Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and any other bookkeeping needs for a client
  • Provide accounting guidance to clients and breakwater team members
  • Identify new client opportunities
  • Identify areas for improvement in each client’s accounting processes or reporting, and provide solutions
  • Convert new clients to QBO, or other preferred cloud-based accounting software, as needed
  • Travel to client locations as needed



  • Accounting degree and minimum 5 years work experience required
  • Must be proficient in QuickBooks/QuickBooks Online
  • Non-Profit accounting and bookkeeping knowledge and experience required
  • Comfortable with learning new technology and accounting applications quickly
  • Must be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented and the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines using excellent time management skills with ease and professionalism
  • Effective problem-solving, verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Professional w/excellent interpersonal & organizational skills
  • Strong team player
